Skai and Langley's relationship is definitely very close, and brushes past just friends into the region of platonic love, both of them are attached on a very emotional level. (Skai also won't refer to them as being in any sort of relationship, due to the negative connotation that comes with it). Interspecies relationships are not only heavily frowned on in society, but the inherent biological differences between the various Second Race and humans isn't really practical to holding more serious relationships.
